Monsters vs. Aliens TV Show Pilot
Can the 2009 film translate into a TV series.
After watching the new Monsters vs. Aliens TV show pilot, I have mixed feeling on it.
The story: Sometime after the events of the movie another alien comes to Earth to make peace after the Galaxar incident. Once our monster heroes meet the new visitor, adventurous hi-jinks ensue.
The most notable difference between the movie and the series is that no one came back from the movie to reprise their roles and, except for BOB and the President, the voices don't sound much like their movie counterparts.
However, the biggest problem I found with the pilot is that it relies on too much humor from the movie to carry it along. Shows like Dragons: Riders of Berk, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and Penguins of Madagascar created their own personal set up. Sure they used some jokes from their perspective franchises, but they created most of the humor themselves. Here it just feels like they're recycling the movies jokes and it got kind of annoying after a while (I swear they used the joke where the President screams like a little girl at least five or six times).
I do like how they handled some things, like giving Susan the ability to change size at will or the fact they didn't give away the main villain yet.
Hopefully the series will do better as it goes along, the pilot is a generic movie spin-off in my opinion.
